Everything is a mentally projected delusion
completely fabricated by our great confusion
our fantasies become a real intrusion
always produced, a mere illusion
Our relationships and life
our entire world even our strife
Nothing is as it seems
.. more like our own dreams
We think things are as they appear
fixed tangible and seemingly clear
Yet they are projected by our own mind
Check closely and see what you find
Altho we hold these illusions dear
nothing is quite as it seems I fear
they are projections that we wish to see
skewed perceptions that we can’t just let be
We fantasise about things and steer
them into what suits our story
Deluding ourselves of our glory
Mere fiction that we hold so dear
Daily Prompt: Illusion

This is really interesting and well written. It’s a strange thing isn’t it that so much of life is not as it first appears. I love how you portrayed the nuances of that.

Well written and thought provoking piece. Telling the world that nothing is as it seems.

absolutely nothing .. we all have our own slant on events and appearances, we tinge everything with our personal perceptions … all are illusions 🙂

This poem is amazing!
“nothing is quite as it seems” and we often find this out because of our life experience and our experiences…often we are what changes.
Your poem makes me think of Shakespeare’s play “Twelfth Night”, and the story of Alice in Wonderland. 🙂
HUGS!!! 🙂

interesting comparisons but yes they all demonstrate how radical our mind and perceptions can be 🙂

Break free of the matrix! Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Very well written. How we perceive life is not how someone else perceives it. It’s always interesting to try to see the world from someone else’s perspective. Great writing!

Maybe the reality of such delusional is why I practice yoga. I find it better to meditate on nothing than “monkey mind” on self created lies.lies,

great point James, distracting our mind from it’s own nonsense is most wise 🙂

thanks for your kind words Ms Singh but 2.5 years is hardly new? Easier to get to know others if you reblog the posts that ‘touch’ you ..

Hello Kate,
A lovely use of your words to accompany your thoughts on this topic. A deep one for sure. I believe we all have our own version of what is our reality all based on our early life, experiences and the emotions we bring. Like seeing red cars only when we have purchased one…we see what we are feeling and have experiences.
Thank you for a great post topic and the chance to think about it too 💐💕

always keen to make others ponder Di .. nothing is black and white and the more we muse on deeper matters then we connect with our own kind of spirituality 🙂

Your poem ‘Illusions’ seems to align very well with modern thinking in neuroscience. The brain is viewed as a machine that makes predictions and then checks them against information from the senses. If the predictions are wrong, it makes stuff up to account for this, hence optical illusions, false memories, etc etc. Strangely, there is also a model of the universe in which everything we perceive is a holographic projection from the edge of the universe, which sounds way out, but apparently the maths works out…
You weren’t a scientist at some time in your life, were you?
BTW, I read your ‘About’ section. Global citizen, and committed peacemaker; super! Me too!

lol never a scientist .. didn’t even learn the basic science at school as the public system was short of teachers, so I have to plead ignorance on that one – your comments are news to me, my poems arrive from my interest in philosophy and sociology .. or are they sciences? Nice to meet you Penny 🙂
