Disguising Our Doubt

We girls and some guys
apply our make up with great care
hides our flaws and highlights
Lips, eyes and check bones

Most apply it early each day
refreshing before we venture out
always keen to look our best
we feel naked without it

it hides our confusion
insecurities, our self-doubt
as we dream of that white knight
who will bail us out

We want someone to care,
to provide and share our life
one who will listen and support
when we encounter strife

For underneath our disguise
we are raw and unsure
we wear it like a mask
don’t make it a barrier
