Our Expectations

We seem to grasp at quantity over quality
Always wanting more and better
It’s a crucial component of a materialistic society
Throw away phones, partners and relatives
If they don’t conform to our expectations
We toss them away and move on

What happened to honest communication,
negotiation and compromise, kindness and acceptance?
With media, advertising, sports and reports
Feeding off our greed;
Pause and think about your sincere need?
Solid loyalty and all those qualities above

Are worth far more than thousands of followers!
Question your attitudes and find deep gratitude
Only multi-nationals win whenever we bin
Goods, people or our emotions
Healthier to seek out quality connections,
Enduring goods and less possessions!

Beware the indoctrination of more, bigger or better
Self-care and personal growth come from within
By surrounding ourselves with sincere positives
Avoid entrapment, false promises and unrealistic expectations
Find your core values and strive for your dreams
But do all this realistically and within your own means.

Daily Prompt:  Expectation

  1. This post “hit the nail on the head” on my decision to leave my home country of America and move to a beautiful remote place in Italy. I’m always asked, “Why, would you ever leave NY for here!”….. It’s the quality of life, farm to table food, air so clean that while at the beach i “really” need sun protection and the biggest part of all. In banks and Gov. offices they still have stacks of paper on their desks (I know they don’t like the stacks…lol) also sense of community. Neighbors still do trade offs, like eggs for cheese and if you help kill and clean our chickens we will give you one for your family dinner. Being a child of the 60’s in America this was lost in 1970 for me. Yes, we do have computers now but we can still keep the quality of life intergraded with the new age we live in, without it evolving into quantity without substance. Thank you for your post, on making me think. 2 snaps and a wink!!
