Don’t Quit!

When things go wrong as they surely will,
When the path you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you need to sigh,
When things are pressing you down a bit –
Rest if you must but don’t ever quit!

Life is a challenge with it’s twists and turns,
as each of us eventually learns,
Too many turn about
When they might have won had they stuck it out!
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
you may succeed with another go.

Often the goal is closer than it seems
when one makes an effort to realise their dreams.
So often we struggle and can give up
when persistence might capture that victor’s cup,
We learn too late once the chips are down,
how close we came to that golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out –
the silver lining in those clouds of doubt,
And it’s hard to tell how close you are,
It may be near but can seem so far,
So stick to the goal when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worse that you must never quit!

  1. That last part ‘when things seem worse that you must never quit’ is a very powerful message and a great quote for everyone whenever things seem hard, because around that corner we’ll all be happy we persevered and didn’t quit 🙂

  2. So much of the poem is so true. People tend to walk away than accept the rewards of perseverance. They think it’s easier; in reality it often leads to the next confrontation that leads to walking even further away from where most people need to be headed.

  3. Hi Calm Kate,
I love your poem. Reminiscent of Shel Silverstein. I love rhyming poems. You liked a comment I made on Sanjay’s blog. I wanted to come over to thank you and introduce myself.
